The role

The Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) is an industry-led Centre by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in collaboration with Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Based on a contemporary business model of public-private partnership, the Centre transforms remanufacturing and manufacturing research into industry ready solutions for cross-sectoral industry members by bringing together best-in-class global companies and R&D minds in Singapore.

Currently, the ARTC works with over 80 industry members to develop advanced remanufacturing and manufacturing capabilities. The members are comprised of global MNCs, leading equipment and software providers as well as SMEs.

We are seeking an innovative and technically skilled researcher to join our team, specialising in robotic adaptive machining systems. The role will focus on developing, integrating. is a key technology for generative and validating robot-based machining solutions that combine industrial robots, machining spindles, positioners, scanners, sensors regenerative applications at the heart of ARTC's remanufacturing and digital process-control systems for advanced manufacturing research. We are looking for people with the passion and drive to join us as part of the Remanufacturing Process Technology (RPT) Group.

The Remanufacturing Process Technology Group also consists of research teams in surface additive and enhancement technology (e.g. Directed Energy Deposition), advanced machining technology and innovative automation solutions for which individuals may also explore.

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and technically strong Engineer to join the Adaptive Machining team at the Advanced Remanufacturing Technology Centre (ARTC). The successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of advanced machining solutions, including robot path planning, robot-to-machine calibration, machining, integrating digital technologies, process optimization, data-driven manufacturing subsystem integration, and validation of robot-based manufacturing processes

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and validate robotic machining processes for advanced manufacturing and remanufacturing applications
  • Program, operate and troubleshoot industrial robot systems, including ABB, KUKA, FANUC, Yaskawa or equivalent platforms
  • Develop robot toolpaths for milling, grinding, polishing or other machining operations using CAD/CAM and offline programming tools
  • Perform TCP, tool, workpiece, robot-to-machine and scanner-to-robot calibration to ensure accurate coordinate transformation across the robotic cell
  • Integrate robotic machining cells with spindles, positioners, scanners, sensors, safety systems and machine communication interfaces
  • Analyse robot kinematics, reachability, singularities, joint limits and workspace constraints to support robust path planning and cell design
  • Evaluate the influence of robot stiffness, compliance, machining forces and vibration on part accuracy, surface quality and process stability
  • Define and optimise cutting parameters, machining strategies and process conditions for robot-based machining applications
  • Generate, review and adapt G-code, NC programs, robot programs and post-processor outputs for robotic machining workflows
  • Conduct experiments, data collection and process validation to improve machining accuracy, repeatability, tool life and part quality
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation and presentations for internal and external stakeholders

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Automation or a related discipline
  • Hands-on experience in CNC machining, machining process development, cutting parameters, tooling selection and G-code/NC programming
  • Experience programming and operating industrial robots such as ABB, KUKA, FANUC, Yaskawa or equivalent systems
  • Strong understanding of robot kinematics, coordinate systems, frames, TCP/tool calibration and robot-to-machine coordinate transformations
  • Knowledge of 6-axis robot motion, singularity avoidance, reachability analysis, joint limits, path optimisation and offline robot programming
  • Experience integrating robotic systems with machining spindles, external axes/positioners, scanners, sensors, safety systems and industrial communication interfaces
  • Understanding of machining forces, vibration, chatter, robot stiffness/compliance and their impact on machining accuracy and surface quality
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM programming and toolpath generation; experience with Siemens NX, RoboDK, RobotStudio, Process Simulate, PowerMill or equivalent tools would be advantageous
  • Programming skills in C#, Python, MATLAB or C++ and familiarity with machine communication protocols such as OPC-UA, TCP/IP or fieldbus systems would be advantageous
  • Experience in data collection, process analysis, experimental validation and continuous improvement of manufacturing systems
  • Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking and hands-on engineering skills, with the ability to work independently in a project-based R&D environment
  • Good command of English, with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and communicate with internal and external stakeholders
