Research Engineer/ Senior Research Engineer (FAB System & Automation), (NSTIC), IME

Job Description

1. MES, Equipment Integration Automation

· Design, develop, and maintain integrations between Manufacturing Execution System (MES), semiconductor equipment, Recipe Management System (RMS), Equipment Integration System (EIS), and Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS/AMR).

· Analyse manufacturing workflows and implement reliable system-to-system communication to support production operations and automation initiatives.

· Collaborate with equipment vendors, process engineers, and production teams to deploy and optimise automation solutions.

2. Equipment Connectivity & SECS/GEM Implementation

· Develop, configure, test and troubleshoot communication interfaces between semiconductor equipment and factory automation systems.

· Support equipment onboarding, equipment status monitoring, event collection, data acquisition, recipe handling, and manufacturing workflow integration.

· Work with semiconductor equipment communication standards such as SECS/GEM, HSMS, or other related equipment communication protocols.

· Ensure robust and reliable communication between manufacturing tools and EIS.

3. Software Development & System Engineering

· Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications supporting manufacturing operations and digital transformation initiatives.

· Develop backend services, APIs, middleware, integration services, and automation scripts connecting MES, RMS, EIS and other applications.

· Where required, build web-based applications, dashboards, and operator interfaces to improve visibility, usability, and operational efficiency.

4. Recipe Management & Manufacturing Control

· Support implementation and enhancement of Recipe Management System to ensure recipe consistency, traceability, and compliance across manufacturing tools.

· Develop automation and validation workflows to improve manufacturing efficiency.

5. Operational Excellence

· Perform root cause analysis, data investigation, and system troubleshooting to improve factory performance and system reliability.

· Drive continuous improvement initiatives through automation, digitalisation, and process optimisation.

6. System Support & Continuous Improvement

· Provide technical support for equipment integration systems and automation platforms.

· Participate in troubleshooting activities involving equipment communication, production interruptions, and software-related issues.

· Maintain system documentation, architecture diagrams, interface specifications, and operational procedures.

Requirements

· Experience working in a semiconductor manufacturing environment, preferably wafer fabrication operations.

· Strong understanding of Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and semiconductor automation workflows.

· Hands-on experience with Equipment Integration System (EIS), Recipe Management System (RMS), or related manufacturing applications.

· Experience designing, developing, and troubleshooting integrations between MES, equipment, factory automation systems, and enterprise applications.

· Familiarity with semiconductor equipment communication standards including SECS/GEM and related automation protocols.

· Experience integrating manufacturing systems, equipment, databases, and other semiconductor-related applications.

· Strong understanding of system architecture, interface design, and middleware integration concepts.

· Strong software development experience using Python, JavaScript, PHP, or equivalent programming languages.

· Experience developing web applications and modern front-end user interfaces.

· Familiarity with REST APIs, databases, and application integration technologies.

· Knowledge of software engineering best practices including source control, testing, troubleshooting, and deployment.

· Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex system integration issues.

· Self-driven and capable of independently managing technical assignments and projects.

· Able to work effectively within cross-functional teams involving production, process engineering, equipment engineering, IT, and external vendors.

· Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
